Another shot of Randomness
Everybody in New York is talking about the likely MTA strike tomorrow as the transport workers and unions have issues about pay rises and medical benefits. (MTA is Metropolitan Transportation Assoc which incl public transit trains and busses basically). If the strike does happen, the Big Apple will turn into a Big Nightmare. A nightmare of people packing the city bridges on foot, or leaping at the first taxi that comes their way. Per the forcast, there is a high chance of sleet and freezing rain with gusty winds tonight and into the AM. Millions of New Yorkers who depend on MTA for subway and bus services to move around places in the greatest city of the world will have a cold and soggy commute tomorrow morning. My colleagues at work and other fellow commuters will find a way, adapt to the change, New Yorkers are resilient, you know. What am I doing? Well I am calling it a 3 day weekend :P
Do you know what is on New Yorkers' minds in the mornings? Its orange juice :D. Tropicana Pure Premium, to be precise. In fact New Yorkers purchase Tropicana more than any other branded grocery item, thus making The Big Apple the Big Orange!
I read Tom Cruise has brought a sonogram machine to see what his and Katie Holmes scientology love child will look like. The machine costs $100,000 and allows him to look in the precious womb of his girlfriend whenever he so desires. Wouldn't be surprised if he puts his girlfriend's uterus under surveillence, too.I guess men are sick of feigning excitement over a tie, a sweater, a pair of boxers or an enormous framed photo as a gift. Someone told me, if you thinking of great gift ideas for guys, think of Xbox 360 and nothing else. O my, my!
Ever wonder what to do for a living or for a career? Your question can be your answer. How about making a career out of helping others choose their career. I think Career Counselling is one of those jobs which feels extremely rewarding much like that of a nurse or a therapist.
If you want to help someone in need, I think the most effective way is to give cash directly to the person or family, not to charitable associations. There is substantial proof from the latest disaster tallies that giving money to charity only helps the charity institutes, not the poor. For example, Red Cross has received $4 to 6 million to aid the people left homeless by Pakistan earthquake, but hundreds of Pakistanis are still freezing to death waiting for winterized tents that don't arrive. Another example, a friend of my colleague lost her house and belongings in Katrina, went to Red Cross station for help and was only given $200 and wished good luck. Makes one wonder what exactly are they spending their billions of Katrina relief fund on? You have a better chance of helping the poor by sliding a few dollars annonymously under the front door of a struggling family, what do you think?Thats all my randomness for the week, everybody have a swell weekend and please be safe.
